CGI Construction in Newport Beach, CA | Pinecrest Contractors
Pinecrest Contractors provides independent CGI cabinet, countertop and surfacing service across Newport Beach, from Balboa Island to Lido Isle and the Peninsula, and also offers CGI in Costa Mesa. We’re a full-scope general contractor, not an authorized CGI dealer, which means we spec the right CGI components for coastal conditions and install them to a standard that holds up under marine-layer humidity and salt air. If you’re planning a kitchen remodel, cabinet reface or quartz countertop replacement in Newport Beach, call (855) 702-1622 for a free estimate. Gil Rourke, our owner, grew up working every phase of residential construction and still reads a job the way a framer reads a wall: from the bottom plate up.

Why Newport Beach Residents Choose Us for CGI Service
We’ve installed and serviced CGI cabinetry and countertops in hundreds of Newport Beach coastal and bayfront projects. Balboa Island cottages, Lido Isle new builds, Peninsula rebuilds. We know CGI’s Euro-style frameless cabinets, their Shaker and slab door profiles, their quartz and granite countertop lines because we work with them daily. That matters when a homeowner asks whether a painted Shaker door will hold its finish facing three hours of afternoon ocean light, or whether standard stainless hinges will pit within two years on a bayfront kitchen. We give straight answers and build to the brand’s spec.
Gil started in this trade at seventeen, pulled in by his older brother, a framer. He learned the fundamentals at Palomar College’s construction technology program, then spent years running residential and light commercial projects across the Temecula Valley before building Pinecrest Contractors. The right material in the right place, that’s where the job starts. That’s how we approach CGI work in Newport Beach and CGI in San Joaquin Hills. One contractor, every system, from the roof down to the pavers.

Common CGI Construction Problems We Solve in Newport Beach
- Salt-air corrosion on cabinet hinges and drawer slides. Ocean- and bay-facing kitchens in Newport Beach see hardware failure faster than almost anywhere inland. Standard ‘stainless’ hinges pit and seize within a few years; we upgrade to 316-grade stainless or coated hardware and replace worn slides before they bind.
- Marine-layer moisture swelling in cabinet boxes and toe kicks. Beachfront homes on the Peninsula and Lido Isle sit in year-round humidity. Lower cabinet panels near floor level absorb moisture, swell, and delaminate. When the box is structurally sound we seal and repair; when it’s gone, replacement is the honest call.
- Quartz countertop chipping and seam failure over deflecting substrates. Older Balboa Island cottages often have original framing that’s out of level. A CGI quartz top set over a flexing floor will chip along seams. We reinforce the substrate before top installation.
- Faded or yellowed painted cabinet finishes on west- and south-facing walls. Large ocean-view windows in Newport Beach let in serious UV. Standard painted CGI finishes degrade fast on those exposures. We specify upgraded paint systems and clear coats for those walls.
- Delivery and staging constraints on tight infill lots. On Balboa Island there’s often no room for a dumpster or material staging. CGI cabinet boxes and countertops arrive by hand-carry or barge, and we schedule installation around weather windows so open-wall work doesn’t sit exposed to winter rain.
CGI Service in Newport Beach: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Newport Beach construction is dominated by high-value coastal and bayfront custom work, remodels, additions and rebuilds on some of the most expensive residential land in the U.S. Permits, coastal and harbor setback review, and HOA and architectural-review-board approvals often matter as much as the framing itself. Tear-downs and scrape-and-rebuild projects on Balboa Island, the Balboa Peninsula and Lido Isle mean crews routinely build new homes shoulder-to-shoulder with 1920s cottages on tiny infill lots. For CGI owners, that reality shapes everything: a kitchen order for a Balboa Island cottage has to fit through a narrow side gate, get carried in by hand, and get installed before an open wall takes on winter rain. The same CGI cabinet line that goes into a Lido Isle new build behaves differently in a 1930s Peninsula bungalow where the floor runs a half-inch out of level and the salt air has been working on the hardware for decades. We plan for those differences from the first site visit, not after the delivery shows up.
CGI Models & Products We Service in Newport Beach
We service CGI Euro-style frameless cabinets, full-overlay with soft-close hardware, in Shaker and slab door profiles, painted and stained finishes. We also work with CGI quartz and granite countertops, fabricated and installed by certified fabricators, and CGI vanity and bath cabinetry lines. For parts, we specify CGI OEM hinges, slides and touch-up finishes to preserve fit and warranty on the cabinet box. When OEM countertop lead times stall a coastal project, we source quality aftermarket fabrication and solid-surface adhesives from established suppliers. We don’t substitute cheap hardware on a cabinet that’s already fighting salt air. See our broader CGI sales & service work for an overview of how we handle the full product line.

FAQs – CGI Construction in Newport Beach
Standard CGI cabinet boxes and hardware will struggle in ocean-facing Newport Beach kitchens unless they’re specified with upgraded components. The cabinet boxes themselves are particleboard or plywood construction; the weak points are hinges, slides, and lower panels near floor level. On bayfront homes we specify 316-grade stainless hardware and seal exposed edges. With those upgrades, CGI cabinets hold up well. Call (855) 702-1622 and we’ll walk your kitchen and tell you what’s actually needed.
Yes. We reinforce the substrate first. Older Balboa Island cottages routinely have original framing that’s out of level by half an inch or more over a 10-foot run. A quartz top set directly on that will flex, chip along seams, and eventually crack. We measure deflection, level the cabinet run, and install a reinforced substrate before the CGI quartz goes down. On a 1990s CGI kitchen we pulled off Marine Avenue, that meant replacing the lower boxes entirely before the new top could be set correctly. Call (855) 702-1622 and we’ll tell you what your floors and cabinets actually need before top installation.
By hand-carry or barge. Balboa Island lots are small and tightly packed enough that a box truck often can’t reach the property, and there’s no place to stage a dumpster. Our crew brings cabinet boxes and countertops in by hand through side gates, across decks, sometimes off a barge at the island’s small docks. We schedule delivery and install within a narrow weather window so materials don’t sit exposed if rain shows up. Call (855) 702-1622 and we’ll come look at your access before we quote.
Sometimes, and sometimes it’s throwing money at a box that’s already failing. If the cabinet boxes are structurally sound, not swollen or delaminated, refacing with new CGI doors and drawer fronts works well and saves thousands over full replacement. If salt air has swelled the lower panels or the toe kicks are crumbling, refacing just hides the problem for a year or two. In Newport Beach, where moisture moves through a beachfront kitchen year-round, the honest call often is replacement. We’ll tell you which one your kitchen actually needs.
For west- and south-facing walls with large ocean-view windows, stained finishes hold up better than standard painted ones. UV through that glass will fade or yellow a painted door in a few years unless you pay for an upgraded paint system with a UV-stable clear coat. Stained CGI Shaker and slab doors in mid-tone woods hide wear and hold color longer. If you want painted, spec the upgrade. Call (855) 702-1622 and we’ll show you samples against your actual window exposure before you commit.
